Late this week, state Sen. Jennifer Wexton (D), a person the national Democratic leadership has long attempted to recruit as a Comstock opponent, announced that she will run for Congress next year. She becomes the fourth Democrat to already announce their candidacy. Sen. Wexton joins former Fairfax Education Association president Kimberly Adams, Iraq War veteran Dan Helmer, and former Veterans Administration official Lindsey Davis Stover as official congressional contenders. The Democratic nomination will likely be decided in a June 2018 primary. Businesswoman LuAnn Bennett, the 2016 nominee, is not expected to run again.
