The participants for the open 2018 Tennessee Governor’s race are far from decided, and Sen. Bob Corker (R) only increased the intrigue this week. Rumors have been circulating that Sen. Corker may eschew running for a third term next year, and instead enter the open Governor’s race. In an interview, Sen. Corker again stated that he has not made any decisions about 2018, but confirmed that becoming a gubernatorial candidate is a possibility. Also reportedly interested in the Governor’s office is US Rep. Diane Black (R-Gallatin), who succeeds former Rep. Tom Price (R-GA) as chair of the House Budget Committee. It is clear that either the Governor or Senate campaign will become a hotly contested affair, and it largely depends upon what Sen. Corker ultimately decides.
