What looked to be a budding two-way Republican primary challenge against incumbent Representative and former Governor Mark Sanford (R-Charleston) has already fizzled. Yesterday, businessman Ted Fienning announced he is ending his short-lived congressional effort, saying he needs to instead focus on his family and business. Last week, defense analyst Tom Perez (no relation to the Democratic National Committee chairman of the same name) was forced to withdraw because of a new overseas professional assignment. Unless someone else comes forward, Rep. Sanford will be again headed to an easy re-election. He is serving his sixth non-consecutive term in the House.
