Following his earlier announcement that he would not seek re-election because of an affair in which he urged his mistress to have an abortion while he was simultaneously co-sponsoring prolife legislation, Rep. Tim Murphy (R-Pittsburgh) now will resign the seat effective October 21st. The vacant seat will go to special election, but is too late to coincide with the November 7th municipal elections. The political parties will caucus to nominate candidates so there will be no open primaries. Gov. Tom Wolf (D) will schedule the special election once the seat officially is vacant. The Republicans are heavy favorites to hold the seat.
