Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul (D), who served a portion of a term in Congress when winning a 2009 special election before losing the regular 2010 election to Rep. Chris Collins (R-Clarence/Buffalo suburbs), says she will not run for the House next year. Some Democrats had hoped she would return to the federal district race. It seems to make little sense, however, in thinking that she would eschew running for re-election to her statewide post, where she would presumably again be Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s running mate, in order to face an uphill congressional battle.
