Yesterday, we see another Democrat who will likely attempt to emulate what Woolf did, but he hopes with a better outcome. Announcing his candidacy against freshman Rep. John Faso (R-Kinderhook) is former Army intelligence officer Pat Ryan (D). While originally hailing from the Hudson Valley, he now lives in New York City. While he might be able to sell his military career as the reason he no longer lives among the people he wants to represent, it is a stretch to believe that an Upstate District will elect a New York City Representative, especially when we’ve seen such a recent example of how the issue plays in the rural Upstate region. Already, six other Democrats have announced for the seat, so the Ryan residency issue will likely play out in the party primary.
