The Garden State is one of five states that holds its gubernatorial contest in the odd-numbered year, and today voters will go to the polls to choose nominees in the 2017 statewide contest. The eventual general election winner will replace term-limited Governor and former presidential candidate Chris Christie (R). Lt. Gov. Kim Guadagno is easily favored in today’s Republican contest while former US Ambassador to Germany and Wall Street executive Phil Murphy appears to be a lock for the Democratic nomination. Post-primary polling will undoubtedly find Mr. Murphy beginning the general election with a substantial advantage.
