Minnesota’s southern congressional district saw one of the closest US House campaigns of the 2016 election cycle when six-term Rep. Tim Walz (D-Mankato) barely survived a challenge from businessman Jim Hagedorn (R) with just a 50.3% victory percentage. Now, Mr. Walz is running for Governor thus leaving the 1st District as a competitive open seat next year. With Mr. Hagedorn returning to candidate status for the Republicans, former state Sen. Vicki Jensen and businessman Colin Minehart had previously declared their candidacies for the Democratic nomination. This week, Iraq War veteran Dan Feehan joined the Democratic group, which still lacks a sitting elected official.
