Already in the Democratic race are two state legislators, two former Iowa Democratic Party chairmen, an ex-mayor, a union president, and a former school board president. If no candidate reaches 35% of the primary vote, Iowa election process then requires delegates to meet in convention to choose a nominee. Such could occur in this primary race. The eventual winner will likely face new Gov. Kim Reynolds (R), who took over for Gov. Terry Branstad (R) when he was appointed US Ambassador to China.
