Cedar Rapids Mayor Ron Corbett (R) announced for Governor in late June and is already making his mark. Reports say he has raised an impressive sum of more than $800,000 for his fledgling effort, which begins in a Republican primary confrontation with new Gov. Kim Reynolds. Coming into the race as the leader of the state’s most liberal city will not likely help him in an Iowa Republican primary, so the odds are stacked against him no matter how much money he may have for his campaign. For her part, Gov. Reynolds announced that US Senators Chuck Grassley (R) and Joni Ernst (R) have agreed to serve as her campaign co-chairs.
