Both Lake Research, polling for the liberal MoveOn.org, and Survey USA went into the Atlanta suburban field to test the upcoming special election to replace Health & Human Services Secretary Tom Price (R). Though the northern Atlanta 6th District is reliably Republican, Democrat Jon Ossoff has solidified the Democratic base vote. Because the GOP is split among four to five active, credible candidates, it is reasonable to predict that Ossoff will finish first, but well short of the 50% majority figure to win the seat outright. Both polls find Ossoff in the low 40-percentile range with four Republicans hovering around the 15-18% mark. The early forecasts project a close general election between Ossoff and whichever Republican manages to advance from the primary.
