Candidate filing for the Senate special concludes Wednesday, and there is still no major state legislative leader or member of Congress coming forward to challenge appointed Sen. Luther Strange (R). Over the weekend, Mr. Strange cemented his lock on the GOP establishment as senior Sen. Richard Shelby (R) formally endorsed him for election. The Senator is also gaining high marks from national conservative groups, as well. The next two days could change things, but Sen. Strange appears to be in better electoral shape for the August 15th special primary than many believed he would be at first glance.
