State Rep. Diane Mitsch Bush (D-Eagle County), a retired college professor, announced that she will enter the Democratic congressional primary in hopes of challenging four-term Rep. Scott Tipton (R-Cortez/Pueblo) next year. The 3rd District occupies the state’s Rocky Mountain western slope, and houses the territory from Pueblo all the way to the Utah border. Rep. Tipton was first elected in 2010, ousting the-Rep. John Salazar (D), 50-46%, and has averaged 54% of the vote over his four campaigns. President Trump carried the district 52-40% in 2016, a six-point improvement over Mitt Romney’s 2012 performance.
