Rep. Ed Perlmutter’s (D-CO-7) pending weekend announcement that he will enter the open Colorado Governor’s race will already bring to 14 the total of known open US House seats for the next election. Five of those are currently in special election, and the remaining nine are either announced retirements or members like Perlmutter who are seeking other offices. Of those 14, nine are from Republican districts and five, Democratic. The regular election announced open seats are Republican Reps. Lynn Jenkins (KS-2; retirement), Jim Renacci (OH-16; Governor), Jim Bridenstine (OK-1; self-imposed term limit), Kristi Noem (SD-AL; Governor), and Sam Johnson (TX-3; retirement); and Democratic Reps. Perlmutter, Tim Walz (MN-1; Governor), Michelle Lujan Grisham (NM-1; Governor), and Beto O’Rourke (TX-16; US Senate).
