Considering the Democrats’ strong 2016 California electoral performance, the party leadership feels there is no Golden State Republican congressional seat that should be considered out of reach. Earlier this week, stem cell research scientist Hans Keirstead (D), who sold his bio-medical company for over $120 million, announced that he will join the field of candidates challenging 15-term Rep. Dana Rohrabacher (R-Costa Mesa). In the last election, the Congressman defeated Democrat Sue Savary, 58-42%. The margin, however, has not dissuaded now five Democrats, and possibly one Republican, from joining the 2016 jungle primary in the Orange County coastal seat that contains Newport Beach and Laguna Niguel in addition to Mr. Rohrabacher’s home city of Costa Mesa.
