State Assemblyman Jimmy Gomez, armed with virtually unified support from the state and national Democratic establishment, scored a 60-40% win last night over former Los Angeles City Planning Commissioner Robert Lee Ahn in a special election contest that featured two Democratic candidates. Mr. Gomez will replace former Rep. Xavier Becerra (D-Los Angeles) who vacated the seat to accept an appointment as California Attorney General. Three of the five special congressional elections have now been filled, with GA-6 and SC-5 both going before the voters on June 20th.
