Gov. Kay Ivey (R), who just recently assumed her office after Gov. Robert Bentley (R) resigned, has yet to announce that she will run for a full term in 2018. But, her pending decision is not stopping others from moving forward. Previously, Huntsville Mayor Tommy Battle entered the Republican race, and Jefferson County (Birmingham) Commissioner David Carrington became an official candidate yesterday. Businessman Joshua Jones is also in the race, but a minor candidate. Public Service Commissioner Twinkle Cavanaugh had previously announced her candidacy when it appeared the office would be open, but has since put a final decision on hold until Gov. Ivey ultimately decides upon her own political future.
