Though Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle, Secretary of State Brian Kemp, and state Sen. Hunter Hill are all in the Republican primary race to succeed term-limited Gov. Nathan Deal (R), at least one new candidate is emerging. Former eleven-term US Rep. Jack Kingston (R), who lost a close US Senate run-off to now incumbent David Perdue (R), is now making moves to enter the open Governor’s campaign. The Republican primary is expected to be a crowded affair, with a run-off a virtual certainty. Former US Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R) is also a potential candidate, but sounds less likely to move forward than when he originally announced his retirement from Congress before the last election. No Democrat has yet declared a candidacy.
