Lost in the General
Former Secretary of State Terri Lynn Land unsuccessfully ran against Rep. Gary Peters for the Michigan open Senate seat.
While Michigan went to President Obama in 2008 and 2012, this race was considered a tossup early in the season. Polls had the two candidates within 2-5 points from one another. Land had shown impressive fundraising in the primary and her record as Secretary of State, personal interviews, and history managing a family real estate development company in Michigan had shown her to be a friend of business. She was strongly supported by many of Michigan's leading employers and was the very clear choice of the business community in Michigan.
Rep. Peters scored only 8% on BIPAC's 112th Congress voting record.
Terri Lynn Land lost in the general by approximately 400,000 votes.
G. Peters 54.6% 1,693,781
T. Land 41.4% 1,283,850
