Lost in the General
Carl DeMaio (R), a former city councilman and mayoral candidate, lost to freshman Rep. Scott Peters (D). DeMaio’s website stated “he knows first-hand the frustration of dealing with regulations and mandates from Washington that impose massive costs on employers and working families.”
This was one of the most competitive races of the cycle, with Peters ultimately edging out Republican Carl DeMaio for this San Diego based seat. Both candidates split support from the business community, and Peters was backed by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, California Labor Federation, and Planned Parenthood.
This seat will continue to be competitive in future years.
S. Peters (i) 51.6% 98,332
R C. DeMaio 48.4% 92,408
