Sen. Orrin Hatch (R) told the media yesterday that he “plans to” seek re-election to an eighth term next year. Mr. Hatch, 82, is already the longest-serving Republican Senator in American history, and the eighth longest of all time. He was originally elected in 1976, the same election when Jimmy Carter won the Presidency. Former Governor and Ambassador to China Jon Huntsman (R) indicated an interest in running for the Senate if Hatch were to retire, but this option is likely not viable anymore. Mr. Huntsman now appears to be President Trump’s choice to become US Ambassador to Russia. Former presidential nominee Mitt Romney still remains lurking around the Utah political landscape, however.
