Like the eastern New Hampshire district that has defeated so many incumbents in the last decade, the northern Chicago suburban district has likewise flipped between two candidates, both holding the seat for two terms. Rep. Brad Schneider (D-Deerfield) and former Rep. Bob Dold (R-Kenilworth) have faced each other in the 2012, 2014, and 2016 election cycles. Mr. Dold was originally elected in 2010, but Schneider defeated him two years later. In the Republican wave year of 2014, Mr. Dold was swept back into office, but Mr. Schneider rebounded and re-claimed the seat last November. Now, he won’t have to face Mr. Dold for a fourth time. The former Republican Congressman yesterday announced that he will not try again in 2018, perhaps ending the seesaw battle that this district has witnessed for the entire decade.
