Former state House Minority Leader Paul Davis, the 2014 Democratic gubernatorial nominee who held Gov. Sam Brownback (R) to a 50-46% victory, formed a congressional exploratory committee to assess his chances in the 2nd Congressional District. The seat will be open next year, as five-term incumbent Lynn Jenkins (R-Topeka) has already announced her retirement. KS-2 is a Republican seat, but can become competitive. Mr. Davis will give the Democrats a credible candidate and nominee, but he will still begin the race as an underdog against the eventual Republican candidate.
