Florida-based pollster Front Porch Strategies released a new survey of the now open 27th Congressional District race, the first since veteran incumbent Ileana Ros-Lehtinen (R-Miami) announced that she will not seek re-election next year. The poll (released 5/16; 805 FL-27 registered voters; 301 likely Republican primary voters via automated response systems) finds Lt. Gov. Carlos Lopez-Cantera with a strong lead in the GOP primary, while also topping the most prominent Democratic candidate. The numbers show the Lt. Governor capturing 57% preference in the Republican primary compared to 13% for former Miami-Dade School Board member Raquel Regalado and 3% for Miami-Dade County Commissioner Bruno Barreiro. Of the group, only Mr. Barreiro is an announced candidate. In a hypothetical general election, Mr. Lopez-Cantera opens with a seven-point, 41-34%, advantage over state Sen. Jose Javier Rodriguez (D).
