Fast approaching Wednesday’s candidate filing deadline for the special US Senate election, US Rep. Mo Brooks (R-Huntsville) yesterday declared his candidacy. State Senate President Del Marsh (R-Anniston) is expected to follow suit today or tomorrow. The two would bring the total number of credible Republican challengers against appointed Senator Luther Strange to six. The special primary is August 15th. A run-off, if necessary, will be held September 26th. The special general is December 12th, and will likely pit the eventual GOP nominee against former US Attorney for the Northern District of Alabama, Doug Jones (D).
