Possibly in response to a bipartisan lawsuit on the matter that argued the election should be much sooner, and allowing any Alabama office holder who wants to run for the Senate without risking their current positions, Gov. Ivey yesterday officially moved the special election to this year. Under the new calendar, the partisan primaries will occur on August 15th, any necessary run-off is scheduled for September 26th, with the general vote on December 12th.
We can expect a flurry of announcements, and Sen. Strange can expect heavy competition for his seat during the remainder of this year.
